Christmas in the Valle is a series of activities at the Mast General Store beginning on Thanksgiving Weekend. The exact schedule may change year to year, but the elements are visits with Santa Claus in the Little Red School House behind the Original Mast Store, live musical performances, Kids’ Make-and-Take Craft Projects (just bring a couple of cans of food for the Hunger and Health Coalition), pet pictures with Mr. and Mrs. Paws (a fund raiser for the Watauga Humane Society), and a sampling of holiday cheer.
There are many holiday and seasonal activities to participate in. You can choose and cut your own Christmas tree at many local farms – some offer hot chocolate and other treats for an added experience. They will be happy to bale your tree and help you tie it to your car or SUV.
Mountain Home Music’s Christmas Concerts
Take in a Christmas concert. Mountain Home Music presents a plethora of popular performers coming together for a holiday tradition on December 4 at 8 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Boone. For tickets and more information, visit www.mountainhomemusic.com.
Music & Santa Paws
The Original Mast General Store will have live bluegrass and Appalachian music most weekends during December. Saturdays music is scheduled for 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. and on Sundays from noon until 2 p.m. You can also visit with Santa Paws at the Little Red School House on Saturday, December 4th and Sunday, December 5th to have your pet’s picture taken with the jolly ol’ elf from the North Pole.
Get your wish list ready
On Friday, November 26, the jolliest of elves, Santa Claus, will arrive to visit with good little boys and girls from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. He will also be available on Saturdays, 11 a.m. until 4 p.m., and Sundays, noon until 3 p.m., to verify his list in person with young visitors. Due to a scheduling conflict with the elves at the North Pole, Santa will be unavailable on December 4 and 5.
Kids Make-and-Take Craft Projects
Mark you calendar for Saturday, December 11 and Saturday, December 18. Children 12 and younger are invited to participate in a Make and Take craft activity at the Little Red School House in Valle Crucis (times will be announced later). Participants are asked to bring ONE new or gently used toboggan, pain of gloves, or winter scarf for the Share the Warmth Coat Drive.
